Images of the Unseen

'Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others'

Through these images, I aim to encourage viewers to reconsider ordinary surroundings and reflect on how ‘Unseen’ things can hold meaning. The images prompt the viewer to slow down, notice what is overlooked, and think about the relationship between people and unnoticed spaces.

Northallerton is a vibrant town, but within it there are areas that exist on the margins of everyday life – places or objects that once served a purpose for people as they went about their lives.

My images conveysa sense of redundancy, absence and anonymity and shows how it is possible to drift through familiar areas without engaging with one’s surroundings. It explores often overlooked and transitional areas that people pass through without notice or being noticed themselves.

The subjects represent the town more tellingly than dramatic events or recognisable landmarks. They are often seemingly insignificant, yet they quietly reveal how areas of the town are used, inhabited and later overlooked. Quiet streets fragments of architecture, empty spaces and incidental details become a metaphor for the character of the town.
