  • I fully admit to being a photography nerd. As well as taking photos I am very interested in the history of photography.

Prior to 1925 and the serial production of the Leica I 35mm camera most cameras were cumbersome medium or large formats. These were slow and bulky, so the 35mm format invented in 1914 by Oskar Barnack, was a revelation to photographers, in particular press photographers. It took until 1925 to start producing these due to WWI and the recovery thereafter. Images 1) The first 35mm photo location. 2) The UR-Leica (replica) made in 1914. 3) Oskar Barnack's Photo. 4) My photo. 5) Information Board. 6) The Leica 1 enters production in 1925.

On our European Road Trip we stopped off at Wetzlar in Germany and visited Leica World. There's a museum, shop (no money was spent) and galleries. The cakes and coffee at the Leitz Cafe are to die for!
